Hi, I’m Steve Caldwell. My friends call me Caldy.
I always love the “about me” page on websites like this because they’re written in the third person …even though they’re typically written by the the owner of the site.
So after Steve Caldwell made several attempts to sound smarter than he really is by writing about himself in the third person, he quickly abandoned that approach and decided to write this page like it was a letter to a friend.
Which …in many ways, it is.
Anyway – what do you want to know?
I’m old enough to be called “seasoned.”
Seasoned is another way of saying that I’ve made enough mistakes in my life that you can learn from my experience.
I spend my time traveling between Phoenix and San Francisco with my wife, Cindy.
We have two daughters, three granddaughters, and a cat named Latte, who is convinced he’s human (and sometimes I think he might be).
I’m guessing that’s not the kind of stuff you’re looking for.
You’re probably wondering,
Is This Guy Worth My Time And Attention?
For many readers, my answer is NO.
I can not help you get rich quick.
For some reason, people equate “leadership training” as a tutorial on how to “get rich quick”.
Learn this quick class and you’ll instantly get promoted to CEO and make millions!
I get it. That’s what most sites on the internet claim. Just buy my stuff and you’ll get rich.
There’s no such thing as easy money.
And especially if you are sincere in wanting a successful management and leadership career.
It takes effort, commitment, and discipline to become successful.
So if you’re not prepared to commit to continuous learning and max effort, I’m not your guy.
If you aren't willing to listen to the truth, you’re not going to enjoy my stuff.
But here’s why I’m telling you this.
Too many people believe that being in management is easy. That all you have to do is be your best and figure it out as you go.
Does that work for some people?
Maybe. In the short term. But if you rely on that, you will make mistakes that all rookies make and sooner or later relying on your gut will cost you.
And, it might cost you your job, your chance at a successful management and leadership career.
So, if you are willing to risk a minimum of $1 million in earned lifetime income (sourced by U.S. Government studies on lifetime income by managers vs non-managers) by trusting on your gut, then best wishes.
Who said you weren’t a gambler?
If you’re looking for “The Easy Way”, I don’t want to help you.
It’s important you understand what I’m telling you.
I can help you, I just won’t. I’m capable of it, but I refuse to do it.
Because when I hear someone say, “What’s the easiest way”, what I’m really hearing is, “I’m not fully invested in the long term success of my own career …and am therefore not fully invested in the long term success of my employees.”
And that really translates to “I don’t want to work”.
Look, learning how to LEAD others is HARD WORK. Yes, it can be fun to lead others but only after you know exactly what it takes each step along the way.
But that takes HARD WORK to create and it takes HARD WORK to maintain.
And, by the way, I learned a long time ago that if you are only looking for stuff that is free, then you get what you pay for, free stuff that may not work and probably won’t be implemented because you don’t attach any real value to it. We value what we pay for and have skin in the game. So, yes, you will have to make an investment in yourself if you want to be great.
