If you are in management, do you ever find yourself – 1) needing a lot of control, 2) requiring lots of data, or 3) demanding no mistakes and perfection from your team? Answering ‘yes’ or ‘maybe’ could mean you are a micro-manager. Is that bad? On one hand, if you are a startup it could support the initial growth of the business. On the other hand, if the business has been successful, micro-management is most likely stifling its growth potential and creating a lot of unnecessary expense through turnover. The fact is, no team will ever be as awesome as it could be if people are being micro-managed. The intelligence and ingenuity employees were hired for is not being allowed to flourish.
